This course addresses professional ethics and values for musicians in UU religious settings and the need for self-care as a part of establishing and modeling healthy boundaries.

This training is sponsored by the UUA’s Music Leadership Certification Program and is open to all music professionals.  Please contact mlcertification@uua.org for more information regarding the certification program.

Goals of the Training

Participants will:

  • Understand the content and responsibilities outlined in the AUUMM Code of Conduct, Personal Romantic Relationships guidelines, Accountability Procedures, and Draft Letter of Understanding,  
  • Be familiar with the Codes of Conduct for religious professional colleagues including UUMA, LREDA, AUUA, and UUAMP, 
  • Understand covenanting best practices and purposes, and research existing covenants in their setting,
  • Understand the dynamics of their staff team, what their role is within it as the music professional, and how staff boundaries get understood and established,
  • Articulate professional boundaries as a tool for caring for others and self, and 
  • Discuss why self-care is essential for all religious professionals.
